Mr. Eddie Lo – a very experienced clinical psychologist and a fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, with over 10 years of experience working in the government sector. He specializes in providing consultation and clinical services for early intervention units, as well as conducting professional training, parenting education, and mental health promotion. He has also been involved in promoting the message of a happy life in Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China, serving as a consultant and trainer for community programs. He has authored books such as "The Happy Classroom," "Happy DIY," and "Positive Psychology Parenting Tips. " Mr. Lo started his private practice in 2012, conducting comprehensive developmental assessments for preschool children, including diagnosing cases on the autism spectrum. During the same period, he conducted staff training and parent seminars in various non-governmental organizations and preschool educational institutions, including teaching the identification and counseling strategies for children with special needs. The speaker will combine orthodox theories with case analysis, diagnosis, and the selection of appropriate interventions to help participants understand the
characteristics of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as develop professional therapeutic and counseling skills to effectively handle cases seeking help.

Brief content:

1. Diagnosis criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the DSM-5.
2. Theoretical etiology of ASD, including genetics, environment, and gene-environment interactions.
3. Theoretical models of ASD.
4. Presentation of ASD, characteristics, and issues in childhood, including social communication skills, language features, and the impact on cognition and play skills.
5. Characteristics of ASD in primary and secondary school stages, including the impact on social communication skills and cognitive abilities.
6. Training and educational issues related to ASD, and strategies for managing behavioral challenges associated with ASD symptoms.
7. Characteristics and issues of ASD in adolescence, including health and mental well-being, sexual development, and adaptive abilities.
8. Different intervention measures available for ASD, their applicability, and the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches. Some described intervention measures include behavior analysis, social-pragmatic/DIR/Floortime, language approaches, biomedical/dietary interventions, and the use of visual strategies.
9. Discussion on the importance of collaboration with families of children with ASD and the impact of autism on family members.
